Minnesota’s favorite season — hockey season — has finally started.

The boys hockey team has tryouts from November 14th to November 17th at the Eagan Civic Arena, whereas the girls hockey team already finished tryouts. The girls team recently visited Duluth for the Duluth Jamboree in November to play against other hockey teams all throughout Minnesota. The season is off to a great start.

The girls hockey team’s first game is on November 25th, while the boys play their first game on December 1st. Tim Yetzer and Luke Schammel are this year’s captains of the boys hockey team. For the girls hockey team, Taylor Luecke and Sophie Bergman are the captains.

Most varsity players have practices all year round, including a summer program. Captain Schammel explains, “We have scrimmages during our practices in the summer, which is basically our evaluation of how we are doing.”

Many players on the hockey teams have been playing the sport for their entire lives. Junior Taylor Anderson says she started playing hockey when she was in kindergarten. She confides, “I saw Disney princesses on ice and I fell in love with skating. I’ve learned from hockey that if you work hard, you’ll eventually reach your goal.”

Let the hockey season begin.
